The successful candidate will work with mill management to develop specific objectives aimed at improving mill performance in the EHS&S area. The Environmental Specialist is a member of the Environmental, Health and Safety Group and reports to the Environmental Manager at the Pine Hill Mill.


Responsibilities:

This successful role:

  • Handles any laboratory or pilot assignment with little or no supervision
  • Independently performs routine and non-routine experiments, complex experiments, trials and lab work and helps to design the technical approach and marshal resources
  • Interprets results, draws conclusions and makes recommends action based on analysis
  • Writes technical reports based on data analysis with summaries, conclusions and recommendations
  • Manages lab inventory and ensures that adequate chemicals and equipment are available and ready for use
  • Is responsible for maintenance and operation of lab equipment
  • Manages lab calibrations and certifications
  • Trains and certifies lab personnel that will be performing testing
  • Plans/organizes the tasks of lab technicians including the creation of a weekly testing schedule that is to be posted and reviewed with lab personnel by Friday of the previous week
  • Performs QA/QC on lab data and leads follow-up activities if errors are found
  • Has thorough knowledge of the details of the operation and communicates with operations and maintenance personnel on a daily basis to discuss, troubleshoot and resolve issues impacting the mill environmental systems based on analytical and laboratory results
  • Has sound knowledge of all regulatory aspects of the lab work, including the interpretation of regulations related to testing and monitoring and the proper application of them
  • Supports the operation of the wastewater treatment system, and is capable of making independent strategic and operational decisions and recommendations
  • Develops and maintains good relationships with external parties such as ECOE, local IP laboratories, local labs, vendors, and consultants that can support laboratory activities
  • Stays abreast of, quickly grasps, and embraces new technology
  • Assists with the completion of river studies
  • Communicates and assists with regulatory agencies conducting onsite inspections
  • Prepares and QA/QC s data for monthly and annual reports to regulatory agencies and customers as requested
  • Schedules and ensures completion of infrequent compliance testing
  • Identifies and leads implementation of constructive change within work area
  • Serves as the EHS lead on a mill weekend duty team


Qualifications:

Technical degree or an equivalent field of study required.

The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, and be able to work with all mill employees as needed to promote and achieve a safe work place. The individual will have good written and oral skills.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
